[01:20:37] --> watt has joined #pentagram
[01:21:17] <watt> hi all
[01:21:23] <wjp> hi Fingolfin, watt
[01:22:05] <Fingolfin> hi wjp, watt, all
[01:22:38] <Fingolfin> wjp: got HotU installed now. No chance to actually try it out yet, though :-). But the install went quite smooth, I found a guide on how to get it working on my Mac in the NWN mac forum
[01:22:58] <Fingolfin> (well the guide mostly stated exactly what I would have done anyway, but i felt like checking before killing my NWN install... :-)
[01:23:08] <Fingolfin> (and yeah of course I made a backup of NWN anyway, just in case ;-)
[01:25:54] <wjp> I'm near the end of HotU chapter 2 currently
[01:25:58] <wjp> level 23 wizard
[01:26:13] <Fingolfin> hehe
[01:26:54] <Fingolfin> I am actually think of starting the HotU campaign with one of the premade chars, because I want to try a red dragon disciple. and maybe some of the other new prestige classes, too :-)
[01:27:09] <Fingolfin> s/think of/thinking about/
[01:27:20] * Fingolfin no grammar nor speling todai!
[01:31:09] <wjp> unfortunately there don't really seem to be any suitable prestige classes for a good wizard
[01:31:20] <wjp> I can take arcane archer, but that's not that useful
[01:34:29] * wjp wonders if there are any custom prestige classes available
[01:35:32] <wjp> it does look like it
[01:42:52] <Fingolfin> hehehe
[02:16:07] <wjp> and chapter three
[02:47:01] <wjp> and now I should really go to bed :-)
[02:47:06] <-- wjp has left IRC ("Zzzz...")
[02:50:58] <-- Fingolfin has left IRC ("good night")
[02:54:04] --> Knight has joined #pentagram
[04:14:16] <-- Knight has left IRC (" HydraIRC -> http://www.hydrairc.com <- :P")
[04:23:06] <-- ragzter has left IRC ("Restarting X")
[04:24:54] --> ragzter has joined #pentagram
[06:47:38] <watt> well.. just uploaded yet another practiacally useless patch to sf :-) Have fun.
[07:03:01] <watt> heh... the comments added to sf for bug reports and patches allow insertion of html.
[07:03:34] <watt> I found that interesting... but it made the XML in my comment look stupid.
[10:41:50] --> Colourless has joined #Pentagram
[10:41:55] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Colourless
[10:42:18] <Colourless> hi
[12:37:56] --> wjp has joined #pentagram
[12:37:56] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to wjp
[12:38:20] <Colourless> hi
[12:38:25] <wjp> hi
[12:38:34] <Darke> Nanoo.
[12:40:06] <wjp> Colourless: the Duergar merchants in chapter 2 paid insane amounts for stuff
[12:40:14] <wjp> I got over 1500 for a single diamond from them
[12:40:36] <Colourless> madness
[12:40:48] <wjp> (both the one on the isle of the maker and the one in that undead cult town)
[12:41:24] <wjp> I'm now at the start of chapter 3 with about 900K in gold, and I still have lots and lots of items that were worth more than 10K in chapter 2
[12:41:40] <wjp> didn't spend any money on upgrades yet, though
[12:41:49] <Darke> Given the Duergar tend to be potrayed as the 'used car salesmen' of dwarves, you'd think they would have better money sense then that!
[13:27:52] <wjp> one weird thing about chapter two was that I was 'pulled into' the city battle before I had finished destroying/converting all the Valsharess' alies
[13:28:14] <Colourless> that is intentional
[13:28:21] <Colourless> i checked the scripts :-)
[13:28:23] <wjp> yeah, I expected as much
[13:28:29] <wjp> of course it was also easily avoidable
[13:28:46] <Colourless> i thought it might have been a time limit thing (which would have been interesting)
[13:28:57] <wjp> I just did the beholders and the undead without returning to town
[13:29:11] <Colourless> but it just does a check. If you've down 4 of the 5 quests it will do the battle
[13:29:35] <wjp> I considered a time limit too, yes
[13:30:10] <Colourless> i never got to the beholders :-)
[13:30:22] <Colourless> i couldn't figure out the damn bridge controls :-)
[13:30:33] <wjp> :-)
[13:30:42] <wjp> your character or you? :-)
[13:30:49] <Colourless> my character
[13:31:05] <Colourless> my lore wasn't high enough to read the writing
[13:31:24] <wjp> my 21-int-and-max-lore wizard had little trouble with it :-)
[13:31:37] <Colourless> checking the script i actually could figure it out now without understanding the writing :-)
[13:32:13] <wjp> the first two buttons move the top ! left and right, the second two the second !, etc...
[13:32:56] <Colourless> i was thinking when i say it, "Nice ASCII art!"
[13:33:07] <wjp> yeah :-)
[13:33:23] <wjp> I wasn't expecting that
[13:33:24] <Colourless> s/say/saw/
[13:34:43] <wjp> you didn't really miss much in the beholder caves, from what I remember
[13:35:00] <Colourless> it's interesting how beholders write using 'common characters' :-)
[13:37:10] <wjp> beholders caves were kind of annoying for my wizard
[13:37:27] <wjp> impossible to keep any kind of defensive spells because of all the dispel magic rays
[13:39:28] --> Fingolfin has joined #pentagram
[13:39:28] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[13:50:32] <wjp> nice place, Cania :-)
[13:51:04] <Colourless> just the best
[13:51:13] <Colourless> better watch out. It gets mightly chilly!
[13:54:01] <wjp> I noticed :-)
[13:55:00] <Colourless> in the quarry 'office' is where you can sell things for lots of money
[13:55:13] <wjp> office?
[13:55:26] <wjp> I'm currently where that smith from chapter 2 is
[13:55:37] <Colourless> you are in the inn :-)
[13:55:46] <Colourless> found the inn keeper yet? :-)
[13:55:58] <wjp> saw him, yes
[13:56:04] <wjp> looked a bit like a dragon
[13:56:05] <wjp> :-)
[13:56:24] <Colourless> I was like 'whoa' when i first saw him
[13:56:45] <Colourless> i had my camera down low so i was like looking at his legs
[13:56:55] <wjp> hehe :-)
[13:58:06] <Colourless> the manager of the quarry is a rather large Balor Lord
[13:58:43] <Colourless> he has a rather impressive collection of things you can buy
[13:59:00] <Colourless> a fair amount things like +8 weapons
[13:59:14] <wjp> well, let's pay him a visit, then :-)
[13:59:49] <wjp> although it seems I need to do something before he's open for business
[14:00:17] <Colourless> you need to repair the No. 5 drill or something
[14:00:33] <Colourless> there is an evil and a good way to do it :-)
[14:00:37] <wjp> I'm on it :-)
[14:01:04] <Colourless> with your high INT you should manage the good way without a problem
[14:02:46] <wjp> hm, that's what you'd think
[14:10:17] <wjp> my appraise is 23 and I still don't get a favorable from this balor lord
[14:10:57] <Colourless> let me guess... you are Good :-)
[14:11:25] <wjp> bingo :-)
[14:11:29] <Colourless> probably Neutral or Lawful i'm guessing too
[14:11:36] <wjp> indeed :-)
[14:12:19] <Colourless> a Balor Lord is going to be Lawful Evil. Such a character isn't going to like you very much
[14:13:19] <wjp> imagine that :-)
[14:13:37] <wjp> luckily there's that drow smith to sell things to
[14:13:58] <Colourless> and the inn keeper too
[14:14:07] <Colourless> but i don't know what their prices are like
[14:14:56] <wjp> don't have any gems left unfortunately
[14:17:43] <Colourless> the drow will be your best
[14:19:49] <Colourless> here is a bit of a hint if you can do it. When you start 'adventuring' in Cania try to keep a lot of GP on you. I'm talking here in excess of 500k. You'll know why in the end, but i wont tell you now
[14:22:37] * Darke Drops Buildings To Crush!(tm)
[14:22:56] * Darke has waaaaay too much fun playing Lunar Corp. in The Moon Project. *grin*
[14:31:13] <wjp> funny how upgrading weapons doesn't update the name
[14:31:24] <wjp> I now have a composite longbow +6 that's actually +7
[14:32:03] <Colourless> the names are just well, names
[14:32:07] <wjp> yeah
[15:15:14] <wjp> sigh.. word games in english :-)
[15:16:26] <Colourless> they are pretty easy
[15:16:57] <wjp> I don't get the dimension one
[15:17:13] <Colourless> what was the clues?
[15:17:46] <wjp> oh, got it
[15:17:59] <wjp> 'sion' was described by 'shin'
[15:18:33] <wjp> (pictures were of a deathbed [di], two men [men], and a leg between ankle and knee [sion])
[15:19:18] <Colourless> Infinity (or was it Infinite) had a complex clue
[15:20:06] <wjp> 'inn', 'fin', 'eye', 'tea'
[15:20:31] <wjp> and there was 'tree', 'son' (treason)
[15:22:37] <wjp> well, I didn't expect to see her here :-)
[15:22:45] <Colourless> :-)
[15:22:51] <Colourless> well, why not? :-)
[15:33:55] <wjp> hm, she sure has an 'interesting' attitude now :-)
[15:34:52] <Colourless> yeah well, she doesn't have to stay that way
[16:21:39] <-- Kirben has left IRC ("System Meltdown")
[16:39:16] <Colourless> going
[16:39:18] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts invisibility")
[17:34:54] --> shinji-kun has joined #pentagram
[17:42:55] <shinji-kun> Hello. Can anyone help me with something?
[17:47:37] <wjp> hi
[17:47:58] <wjp> what's the problem?
[17:49:09] <shinji-kun> I don't know if the original distribution of U8 did this, but mine has some of the datafiles compressed.
[17:49:27] <shinji-kun> I remember that the first run on DOS uncompressed them before starting the game.
[17:49:30] <wjp> u8shapes.cmp?
[17:49:34] <shinji-kun> yeap.
[17:49:55] <shinji-kun> I'm on Linux these days, and wine (or winex) is not helping...
[17:49:58] <wjp> we have a tool called unpackshp in cvs that uncompresses it
[17:50:08] <shinji-kun> Great!
[17:50:17] <wjp> you'll need the 'old' cvs modules
[17:50:22] <wjp> s/modules/module/
[17:51:13] <wjp> it's in the tools directory and called unpackshp (you'll have to build the entire old module first)
[17:52:25] <shinji-kun> okay.
[17:52:41] <shinji-kun> Is there any testsuite I can run? Perhaps I can help with this sort of thing.
[17:52:58] <wjp> testsuite? what do you mean?
[17:53:30] <shinji-kun> Well, a testsuite. Like, "make check".
[17:53:52] <wjp> what would that check?
[17:54:10] <shinji-kun> Regressions, for example.
[17:54:36] <wjp> we don't have any tests in place, no
[17:54:48] <wjp> although maybe we should have them :-)
[17:55:11] <shinji-kun> hm, okay. I think I can at least build it regularly.
[17:55:15] <shinji-kun> I really loved U8. :~
[17:56:23] <wjp> pentagram still needs rather a lot of work, although conversations and at least the first part of the plot seem to be working ok
[18:06:36] <-- watt has left IRC (Remote closed the connection)
[18:07:17] --> luiz has joined #pentagram
[18:07:31] <luiz> hi
[18:07:39] <wjp> hi
[18:08:17] <luiz> what is the current status of this project?
[18:08:34] <wjp> hm, you'll have to be a bit more specific :-)
[18:09:24] <shinji-kun> The "old" module doesn't compile with gcc 3.3.2 .
[18:09:31] <shinji-kun> Compiles normally with gcc 3.2.2 .
[18:09:33] <wjp> it doesn't?
[18:09:42] <wjp> hm, what errors does it give?
[18:09:51] <luiz> the development status
[18:10:39] <shinji-kun> wjp: just a sec.
[18:10:50] <wjp> luiz: well... still a bit of a broad question, but let's see: usecode interpreter is mostly done, world is displayed nearly correctly, movement is somewhat functional; no combat or monster AI yet; GUI also needs a lot of work
[18:10:54] <wjp> luiz: does that cover it? :-)
[18:11:21] <wjp> dinner's ready, so I have to go for a while
[18:11:40] <wjp> shinji-kun: please copy/paste any errors into the channel (as long as they're not too long); I'll take a look when I get back
[18:11:45] <luiz> well, who need a GUI? lets move in the dark ;)
[18:11:47] <shinji-kun> okay.
[18:12:43] <luiz> shinji-kun paste on `no more flood' website and paste the url here
[18:16:55] <shinji-kun> http://thoth.homelinux.net/~pedro/stuff/pentagram.old.out
[18:19:00] <luiz> a lot of errors
[19:06:46] <wjp> just one, from what I can tell
[19:08:24] <wjp> try adding an #include <cassert> to headers/common_types.h
[19:16:09] <shinji-kun> Right.
[19:17:17] <shinji-kun> There seems to be a lot of "#ifdef MACOS \n #include <cassert> \n #endif" around.
[19:20:00] <shinji-kun> Adding #include <cassert> to headers/common_types.h seems to have fixed it.
[19:20:34] <shinji-kun> Why not have the unpackshp tool on the main module?
[20:09:05] <-- luiz has left IRC ("Paranoia is simply an optimistic outlook on life...")
[20:11:39] <wjp> it's very very very messy
[20:11:42] <wjp> awaiting a rewrite
[20:11:56] <wjp> and it might be integrated into pentagram itself
[20:12:09] <wjp> we're not quite sure yet how we're going to handle installing/uncompressing u8
[20:15:02] <shinji-kun> hm...
[20:46:37] <-- Fingolfin has left IRC ("42")
[23:40:34] <-- shinji-kun has left IRC (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
