[11:40:22] <wjp> probably best to look at the bug tracker for that
[11:41:03] <wjp> and maybe the TODOs in the source code, although those tend to vary wildly in importance
[11:41:52] <wjp> fine-tuning movement and animations is probably one of the bigger ones

[11:43:06] <wjp> there's the occasional burst of activity about once or twice a year at the moment

[11:45:38] <Colourless> elements of pentagram work better than the original, other elements are very raw and you might have issues
[11:45:50] <wjp> that about sums it up
[11:46:32] <Colourless> if you want to 'experience' Pagan, pentagram is not a bad choice. If you want to play the whole game, probably better to use Dosbox, unless you're interested in reporting bugs
[11:47:38] <Thihi> Hmmh. Ok, thanks. I'll consider this when I eventually get that far. I'm about half way through Serpent Isle and felt like finally playing Pagan and Ultima IX.
[11:47:57] <Thihi> I sorta stopped after SI in the 90s, since Pagan seemed somewhat a ... subpar game.
[11:48:10] <Thihi> And never got round to playing IX at all.
[11:48:15] <Colourless> when we started pentagram, Pagan was pretty much unplayable in Dosbox. How things have changed
[11:48:48] <Thihi> Yeah, Dosbox has advanced a lot.
[11:48:53] <Thihi> It even plays most demos these days.
[11:49:05] <Thihi> Like, you know, demoscene demos.
[11:49:05] <Thihi> :)
[11:49:21] <Thihi> Which are pretty demanding compared to games.
[11:49:36] <Thihi> WEll, most games.
[11:49:46] <Colourless> demos also can exploit hardware bugs in intereting ways
[11:52:37] <wjp> hrm, at some point we should sit down and work around those high resolution / large fastarea issues
[11:53:24] <Colourless> some of the fastarea issues might need to have 'fixups'

[11:53:54] <Colourless> so when x happens, do something special wrt the fast area
[11:55:06] <wjp> yes... maybe just some eggs which need a reset based on distance instead of fastarea
[11:55:27] <Colourless> thinking about the spot in the catacombs where you put the skull in the hole in the wall in particular. if the fast area is too big, the change wont be noticable until you walk away

[11:56:03] <wjp> I was thinking of the non-reset teleporter in the Obsidian Fortress in particular

[11:59:31] <Colourless> could probably put a hook in various places and have fixups indicating regions that need to have the fast area reset such as 'when flag changed'

[15:02:38] <Thihi> Not sure what to think about hacing Tracy Hickman as the lead story designer.
[15:03:04] <Thihi> But still, I've pirated my share of Ultima games when I was a kid, so it feels good to support it no matter what steaming pile of nostalgia finally pops out.
[15:03:34] <Thihi> I think I have Ultima V of C64, VI for pc, SI for pc, UW1&2 for pc.
[15:03:40] <Thihi> And IX for pc, but I never played it.
[15:04:00] <Thihi> I've pirated IV and VII and VIII as a kid.
[15:04:17] <Thihi> And never got around to playing I - III.
[15:04:34] <Thihi> Well, I guess I tried II at some point, but I never put in any hours into it.
[15:05:09] <Thihi> Oh, and I also have Savage Empire for pc.
