[02:27:22] <WizardryDragon> Moo

[02:39:06] <WizardryDragon> Or perhaps not moo.
[02:44:36] --- Marzo_away is now known as Marzo
[02:45:20] <Marzo> Hi
[02:46:24] <Marzo> (sorry for the delay, but Miranda auto-connects when the computer resumes from hibernation; I turned it on and left to do something else)
[02:51:22] <WizardryDragon> Aha
[02:51:26] <WizardryDragon> Hello :)
[02:52:02] <WizardryDragon> I made a liar out of myself, it seems.
[02:52:21] <Marzo> Thou hast lost an eighth :-)
[02:52:57] <WizardryDragon> While Id previously said I made no security changes to the server, I ended up disabling the password authentication for SSH (and thus SFTP and SCP) because there was a large volume of brute force attempts on the sshd service of the server.
[02:53:47] <WizardryDragon> I sent an email with details how to get the server to work with SSH keys which is the alternative, if you're unsure how to work that with CPanel
[02:54:56] <Marzo> Aye, these new changes now prevent me from connecting with FileZilla too now
[02:55:08] <Marzo> I will set it up another day, though
[02:55:49] <Marzo> (still haven't set up as you suggested in the last e-mail)
[02:56:02] <WizardryDragon> You should be able to use unsecure FTP normally, but its not as desirable for reasons that should be obvious.
[02:56:11] <Marzo> Aye
[02:56:34] <Marzo> I was just now wondering who could be trying to hack into your server
[02:57:22] <WizardryDragon> Other than yourself apparently? XP
[02:57:51] <Marzo> Bah, who needs to hack when you know the owner and can pester him for something :-)
[02:58:03] <WizardryDragon> There was a large amount of tries (just over 6000) yesterday from a dynamic ip out of Nevada, but because its a dynamically assigned IP its pretty hard to know who exactly is doing it.
[02:58:35] <Marzo> Lol, just found this card: http://www.zazzle.com/evolution_of_christmas_card-137941267832226570
[02:59:04] <WizardryDragon> Hehe
[02:59:53] <Marzo> Nevada, heh?
[03:00:39] <WizardryDragon> Apparently.
[03:00:46] <WizardryDragon> Thats where it traces to.
[03:03:35] <WizardryDragon> Its probably a script, if not a very virtuous one.
[03:04:17] <Marzo> Aye; probably someone trying to find somewhere easy to hack into to use for illicit things
[03:05:13] <Marzo> Hm. My website has seen its share of strange attempts to get to 'unlisted' pages
[03:05:48] <Marzo> This month, there was someone trying to access a page 'xvvwirin.html' (despite the fact that all pages in the site are in php)
[03:06:56] <Marzo> Last month, several attempts at reaching pages with 'admin' in the URL were also made
[03:07:16] <Marzo> '//PHPMYADMIN/main.php', '//php-my-admin/main.php', etc
[03:08:22] <Marzo> Similarly for october too, and I am guessing for other months too
[03:08:40] * Marzo thinks of setting up pages giving the finger for these cases
[03:09:45] <WizardryDragon> Is that Virtuous, Avatar?
[03:10:11] <Marzo> Probably not
[03:10:27] <Marzo> But neither is trying to gain control of someone else's server
[03:11:23] <WizardryDragon> Hehe
[03:14:58] <WizardryDragon> I will hopefully have a whole lot more time to work on TFL once christmas passes and things stabilise.
[03:15:45] <Marzo> How is the fight scene coming along, BTW? Have you had the chance to try putting the code to use?
[03:16:02] <Marzo> (now, *that* was a sentence loaded with verbs, if I ever saw one...)
[03:17:44] <WizardryDragon> Not yet honestly. Today is the first day off Ive had in a while and I spent most of it makign sure I wont have my webserver appropriated when I wasnt looking. I intend to on friday when I have another day off, if not before then.
[03:18:46] <Marzo> k
[03:18:53] <Marzo> (it is just that I am just curious to see how it will turn out in the end)
[03:20:03] <WizardryDragon> :)
[03:23:34] <WizardryDragon> Im incredibly perfectionistic about scripted sequences, a fact that compounds my frustration with trying to program script blocks. Because these sequences are the main element which help introduce the story, I want to insure that they work out impressively (or as impressive as we can be in Exult) and help convey the atmosphere.
[03:24:01] <Marzo> I can relate to that
[03:25:05] * Marzo remembers how much work was crafting the gypsy-dealing-cards scene, given how long one will usually see it onscreen
[03:25:22] <WizardryDragon> So essentially the lack of progress comes down to a combination of my sometimes overzealous focus, and my perfectionism with having the sequence be "just right".
[03:25:34] <WizardryDragon> Though, ultimately, I'd rather go that way than the way of Ultima IX >.>
[03:26:07] <Marzo> There is a fan-based mod of U9 in progress that says more or less the same thing
[03:27:59] <WizardryDragon> Theres been a lot of mods of U9. I wonder if any of them will really produce. Though I suppose there is irony to me wondering that.
[03:29:11] <Marzo> They don't produce exactly because we all know what happened to U9 when it was rushed out :-)
[03:31:48] <WizardryDragon> Its funny to think how many years Ive spent tinkering with this.
[03:32:37] <Marzo> I know the feeling
[03:50:28] <WizardryDragon> Well, I need to sleep since I have to be awake again in about 8 hours. Good night.
