[18:21:54] <Coren_> Hey Willem!
[18:22:02] <wjp> hi Coren_
[18:32:35] --> vividos|away has joined #uwadv
[18:32:46] <vividos|away> hey, I'm away :)
[18:32:50] --- vividos|away is now known as vividos
[18:32:52] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to vividos
[18:33:01] <wjp> hi :-)
[18:33:37] <Coren_> Hey vividos.
[18:35:19] <vividos> hi all!
[18:50:20] <QQtis_> hey
[18:50:21] <QQtis_> ok
[18:50:26] <QQtis_> I'm playtesting again
[18:50:38] <QQtis_> human is definitely placed too low
[18:50:46] <QQtis_> his feet are in teh ground
[18:51:49] <vividos> only a bit, I would say
[18:52:14] <QQtis_> hm...
[18:52:25] <QQtis_> are you sure the NPC's are scaled right?
[18:52:36] <QQtis_> they seem kind of small
[18:52:42] <QQtis_> maybe I'm immagining things
[18:52:51] <QQtis_> I haven't played the original in a while
[19:10:30] <vividos> might be that they're a bit small
[19:18:27] <vividos> did anyone try out the musicpack yet?
[19:19:36] <Coren_> [marc@vampire low]$ ./babl 3
[19:19:37] <Coren_> 'HEY! Canst not a guy take a shower hereabouts?'
[19:19:37] <Coren_> 1 - Sorry!
[19:19:37] <Coren_> 1
[19:19:37] <Coren_> Babl::run() returns 'Ok'
[19:19:54] * Coren_ dances around the channel.
[19:21:01] <Coren_> I've listened to it. It's muy cool.
[19:38:18] <vividos> anyone cares to do a little proof-reading? http://cvs.uwadv.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/uwadv/uwadv/docs/README.uwadv.txt?rev=HEAD&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup
[19:39:10] * Coren_ is fairly certain "Open Source" does not take a dash.
[19:39:20] <vividos> ok
[19:41:14] * Coren_ finds nothing else glaring at him.
[19:41:54] <wjp> you say /usr/local/share/games/uwadv in one place, and /usr/share/games/uwadv in another
[19:42:36] <Coren_> Ah. Hadn't noticed that. Might want to autoconf that file anyways and use a subst, no?
[19:45:06] <vividos> I just change it to use /usr/local/... everywhere (the user can take his/her own paths)
[20:18:30] <-- Eldron has left IRC ()
[20:32:07] <QQtis_> everything seems to work fine
[20:32:46] <QQtis_> except the documentation seems a little off
[20:32:58] <QQtis_> looking is done by right-click, not left
[20:33:26] <QQtis_> and the eye-mode is not functional, as far as I can see, so that's besides the point
[20:36:40] <vividos> it should
[20:37:27] <vividos> it works for me
[20:41:34] <QQtis_> really?
[20:41:36] <QQtis_> hm....
[20:41:46] <QQtis_> i did clean before install
[20:41:57] <QQtis_> strange
[20:43:13] <vividos> yes, either select "look" icon or none (default mode) and right-click on objects
[20:43:29] <vividos> wjp, ready to do a release source?
[20:43:52] <vividos> source release, that is :)
[20:45:33] <wjp> sure :-)
[20:46:00] <wjp> hm, lots of last-minute changes, I see :-)
[20:46:26] <vividos> yes :)
[20:46:50] <vividos> I just commit the ChangeLog and tag the repository then
[20:47:10] <wjp> oh, so current CVS wasn't the final one yet?
[20:47:20] * wjp cancels rpmbuild :-)
[20:47:54] <vividos> no, I always tag the CVS that should be used for a new release
[20:49:12] <vividos> README.dev.txt contains the full list of steps to do for a release
[20:49:19] <Coren_> 'Britannia... ah, yes, I recall it, Mondain's home! Distasteful man. Wonderful scholar, though, and such a charming wife. Shame about his father.'
[20:49:39] <QQtis_> by the way
[20:49:52] <QQtis_> I guess more of the new features could be mentioned in the readme
[20:50:13] <QQtis_> there's new CD and gravity, and the critter rendering
[20:50:39] <vividos> well, there's always the "Changes" file
[20:52:24] <vividos> argh, my linux box connection is so slow ...
[20:55:39] <vividos> ok, repository is tagged. tag name is "rotworm_stew_06". thanks for your patience wjp!
[20:55:58] <vividos> just upload it to upload.sourceforge.net/incoming then
[20:57:12] * wjp decides to do this on a uni. machine... my home upload speed is too slow :-)
[20:58:18] <wjp> incidentally, the 'make dist' step in README.dev.txt is actually a './autogen.sh; ./configure; make dist' step
[20:59:10] <wjp> doing a final test build to see if everything's ok...
[20:59:18] <vividos> yes, I kept it short for readability
[20:59:38] <vividos> it should, but we can always move the tag if there are problems
[21:00:09] <vividos> ok, I'm back later
[21:00:16] --- vividos is now known as vividos|away
[21:04:35] * wjp hmms
[21:05:50] * wjp moves old SDL version out of the way :-)
[21:12:44] <wjp> vividos|away: I uploaded the .tar.gz, .src.rpm and .i386.rpm to sf

[22:23:24] <hate> hmm, I have some screenshots of the gazer mesh..
[22:23:29] <hate> no textures yet
[22:23:31] --- hate is now known as Eldron
[22:23:39] <Eldron> oh where did I get that nick from..
[22:23:52] <Eldron> I'll upload them
[22:25:38] <vividos> cool!
[22:27:51] <vividos> I'll check back in an hour or so. Eldron: just post the link here, I'll read the logs (or send the link per mail, if you want less attraction :)
[22:28:34] <-- vividos has left IRC ("Leaving")

[22:47:01] <QQtis_> ooooo
[22:47:03] <QQtis_> nice
[22:47:28] <QQtis_> are you jsut working based on the shapes in the original sprites?
[22:47:51] <Eldron> yea, its based of the sprites
[22:48:20] <QQtis_> awesome :)
[22:49:44] <Eldron> thanks :)
[23:30:35] --> uncle_f has joined #uwadv
[23:31:41] <-- uncle_f has left IRC (Client Quit)
[23:35:47] <Dark-Star> that one's cute :-)
[23:37:44] <Coren_> Eldron: What format do they exist in?
[23:38:40] <Coren_> I notice you kept the poly count really low; will they still deform well with a skeleton?
[23:42:10] <Eldron> I had some extra polygons at the deforming points.. so it will look ok..
[23:42:28] <Eldron> that model is around 550 triangles..
[23:44:12] <Coren_> Prutty nice.
[23:44:29] <Coren_> I'm asking because I plan on stealing uwadv's models where they match. :)
[23:44:39] <Eldron> hehe..
[23:45:00] <Coren_> Some of the UO:3D models are fairly nice; but some stink badly and all are VERY high poly count.
[23:45:24] <Eldron> yeh, and they dont exactly fit to the graphical look of the underworld games..
[23:46:28] <Coren_> Depends which; humanoids are okay, and the spiders look incredible; but the ghost sucks badly, and I'm missing many. The gazer, of course, is a major point of contention. You'd be amazed how many people just /hate/ the U9/UO:3D gazer. :)
[23:46:45] <Eldron> hehe
[23:46:57] <Coren_> And green-colored orcs just aren't quite goblins, you know. :)
[23:46:57] <Eldron> the original uo gazer is ok.. But the u9 gazer looks like an alien!
[23:47:36] <Coren_> Also, no rotworms or slugs in UO:3D, nor bats.
[23:47:51] <Coren_> Have you looked at how the models look in LoW?
[23:48:02] <Eldron> I have seen some screenshots
[23:48:33] <Coren_> I don't have most monsters on screenshots, though.
[23:48:51] <Coren_> The spiders look great; they're actually scary-looking. :)
[23:48:51] <Eldron> I haven't tried low yet
[23:49:27] <Coren_> Shame! :)
[23:49:34] <Eldron> :)
[23:50:26] <Coren_> If you do decide to try it before I publish 0.3 sometime late next week, grab the CVS not the 0.2 though.
[23:50:43] <Eldron> I have the cvs, But I think I had some troubles with building it
[23:50:56] <Coren_> That's been fixed since with the help of Willem.
[23:51:12] <Coren_> Do a cvs update and then you'll be able to autoconf&&./configure away.
[23:51:59] <Coren_> Turns out there were very few people indeed who could use my personal Makefile. :)
[23:53:06] <Eldron> hmm, I use mingw, how do I run that autoconf thing?
[23:54:15] <Coren_> Erp; that's a good question. I would expect autoconf to exist in some form for mingw-- but my source probably won't deal very well with mingw in the first place; I kinda presume cygwin for win32-- does mingw provide most of the POSIX functionality and header files?
[23:55:08] <Coren_> If you think it does, I can do an autoconf on my side and give you my resulting ./configure
[23:55:54] <Eldron> posix?
[23:56:37] * Coren_ chuckles. You Microsoft heaten you! :) POSIX is the least-common-denominator of unices, and generally agreed upon as the minimal services an OS should provide.
[23:57:00] <Coren_> I guess there is no better way to find out than try building LoW under mingw, really.
[23:57:26] <Coren_> Can you usually run configure scripts when building packages from source?
[23:57:38] <Coren_> Or do you rely on a preexisting Makefile?
[23:58:20] <Eldron> I use the makefile that comes with the sourcepack.. if its there
[23:58:57] <Coren_> and when it's not? Do you have a shell that can run configure scripts?
[23:59:06] <Eldron> I have cygwin
[23:59:12] <Coren_> Ah.
[23:59:36] <Eldron> tried to autoconf, But it says I have an old autoconf version.. doh..
[23:59:47] * Coren_ chuckles.
[23:59:53] <Coren_> Lemme give you a completed ./configure
