[02:12:50] <Eldron> coren!, you awake?
[04:48:52] * Coren_ is back
[04:48:57] <Coren_> I'm back now Eldron.
[06:06:43] * Coren_ is away: sleep

[10:48:21] <QQtis> greetings
[10:55:04] <Eldron> hey, I just started drawing the texture for the gazer.. what do you think?..
[10:55:05] <Eldron> http://eldron.20m.com/model/uw/gazer_text_1.jpg
[10:56:48] <QQtis> looks good :)
[10:57:09] <QQtis> ok - I'm leaving for Wisconsin today
[10:57:17] <QQtis> just wanted to check in
[10:57:20] <QQtis> I'm still alive
[10:57:21] <QQtis> :)
[10:57:32] <QQtis> talk to you all on monday
[10:57:53] <Eldron> bye

[13:51:23] * Coren_ is back
[13:53:24] <wjp> Coren_: did you catch my message last night? (README talks about 'Legend of Worlds' instead of 'Labyrinth of Worlds')
[13:53:24] <Eldron> hey
[13:54:03] <Eldron> http://eldron.20m.com/model/uw/gazer_text_2.jpg
[13:54:22] <wjp> I was just looking at it; pretty good :-)
[13:54:46] <Coren_> wjp: Yes, I did. It been fixed. Braino. :)
[13:56:51] <Coren_> After careful review of the SF TOS, and under the expectation that EA is unlikely to whine about my doing so, I've decided to put the data archives on sf.
[13:57:01] <wjp> :-)
[14:43:12] <Coren_> There. Alea jacta est.
[14:44:07] <wjp> which die is that?
[14:44:25] <Coren_> Reliance on EA not throwing a fit. :)
[14:44:30] <wjp> ah :-)
[14:45:19] <Coren_> I don't expect they will. To date, they have strictly observed their policy of total obliviousness to rewrites.
[14:47:24] <Coren_> The music is not likely to cause problems: the Ultima Dragons have historically been able to publish it around; the only real question is the 3d models taken from UO:3D but given that they cannot, on their own, be used to play UO (obviously) and that LoW requires UW2 to be used at all I don't expect even the most ravenous suit would find a problem.
[14:47:59] <Coren_> But that's also why I have split them in their own archive so that it could be pulled without breaking anything.
[14:48:28] <Coren_> In case they decide to pull a RIAA on me. :-)
[14:48:34] <wjp> :-)
[14:49:46] <Coren_> depend:
[14:49:47] <Coren_> makedepend -Y 2>/dev/null LOW_OBJ=$(addsuffix .cc, $(LOW_PARTS))
[14:50:27] <Coren_> What else did you mean by "dependency tracking"?
[14:50:48] <wjp> well, gcc has built-in dependency tracking
[14:51:08] <Coren_> Oh? Never used that feature.
[14:51:25] <Coren_> But feel free to tweak the build process; that /is/ why you have commit access. :)
[14:51:46] <wjp> the preprocessor has an option to write an includable Makefile with the dependency rules for the current file
[14:52:03] <wjp> which may or may not be more flexible than the makedepend way
[14:52:46] <Coren_> Actually, it probably is better-- makedepend presumes knowledge of every file that could depend on another, whereas that method probably figures things out on the fly.
[14:53:57] <Coren_> The only request I make about eventual tweakings to the build process is to shy away from automake which constructs makefiles I really hate.
[14:54:13] <wjp> I have absolutely no problems with avoiding automake :-)
[14:56:04] <wjp> I added some auto-dependency-tracking rules to Makefile.in yesterday, but I don't think they'll work with gcc<3
[14:56:25] <Coren_> Hey, I got another one. What the *bleep* does 'P' mean as status to cvs update? The docs don't even mention the possibility.
[14:56:39] <wjp> prune dirs
[14:56:43] <wjp> or prune empty dirs, rather
[14:56:55] <Coren_> It was given on a file.
[14:56:58] <Coren_> cvs server: Updating .
[14:56:59] <Coren_> P CHANGELOG
[14:56:59] <Coren_> M README
[14:57:02] <wjp> oh, that P
[14:57:04] <wjp> patched
[14:57:35] <wjp> I misread your question (-P as an option to update prunes empty dirs)
[14:57:36] * Coren_ boggles.
[14:57:57] <Coren_> As in: the repository had changed?
[14:58:05] <wjp> yes :-)
[14:58:12] <wjp> as in: I committed that file last night :-)
[14:58:16] <wjp> (minor typo)
[14:58:19] <Coren_> Ah!
[14:58:42] <Coren_> I tought this would have been 'U', or 'C' had there been conflicts.
[14:58:57] <Coren_> In fact, that's what 'man cvs' claims on my box.
[15:01:01] <Coren_> As for gcc <3 support; don't bother-- there are large swats of the source that will break with 2.x anyways. gcc 3.x is a requirement.
[15:01:08] <wjp> great :-)
[15:01:22] <wjp> I'll just commit it then
[15:01:37] <Coren_> Go ahead, I'll see if it barfs on my box. :)
[15:01:44] <wjp> I also added a rule to have Makefile regenerated if Makefile.in changed, btw
[15:01:58] <Coren_> That's probably a Good Thing.
[15:02:07] <wjp> (just by calling ./config.status, so it won't re-run all of configure)
[15:02:49] <Coren_> I really like my new font. :) Have you noticed the oblique text for narration? :)
[15:03:09] <wjp> yup :-)
[15:03:13] <wjp> nice touch
[15:04:09] <Coren_> Oh, I was considering reducing the size of object icons (like, in container gumps and inventory and such) do you think that would make them too small? Arx uses MUCH smaller ones and that doesn't seem too bad-- making mine smaller would help a great deal with barter.
[15:04:23] <Coren_> As it is, I've kept roughly the same visible size as UW2
[15:06:06] <wjp> they're too big for the bartering?
[15:06:50] <Coren_> Well, they would require the text area to be reduced a bit, which I am loathe to do. I need to fit six 'boxes' below the portraits.
[15:07:21] <Coren_> Reducing them a bit would also allow me to reduce the paperdoll just a midge, which would also give more space to dialog.
[15:08:37] <Coren_> Well, the new dependency stuff works fine on this end too. I am *squirting happy colors*.
[15:10:32] <Coren_> Oh, them .d files are cute.
[15:10:43] <wjp> :-)
[15:10:59] <wjp> you could move the bartering 'boxes' further to the right, maybe
[15:11:37] <wjp> although the paperdoll could get in the way, I guess
[15:11:50] <Coren_> Hmm, yes, at the cost of not being able to open the paperdoll.
[15:12:12] <Coren_> Hell, lemme do it the easy way: try it. :-)
[15:13:02] * Coren_ kicks himself in the butt.
[15:13:24] <Coren_> manip.cc contains tons of hardwired constants peppered all over. BAAD programmer!
[15:13:50] * Coren_ hides in shame.
[15:33:22] <Coren_> Try this; don't mind the paperdoll which hasn't been adjusted to acount, take a peek at containers.
[15:36:10] --> Dark-Star has joined #uwadv
[15:36:38] <Coren_> If they are not too small, that would also allow me to scale the container gumps down a bit, they take a LOT of screen realestate right now.
[15:36:47] <Coren_> Hey, Dark-Star.
[15:37:13] <wjp> I guess they're still large enough
[15:37:26] <wjp> (even in a window)
[15:38:46] <Coren_> It was Arx that made me realize mine were perhaps bigger than needed; theirs are smaller even and yet I didn't find them annoying during play-- I expect that not being bound to 320x200 has something to do with it. :)
[15:39:04] <wjp> :-)
[15:39:09] <Coren_> I think I have a fair compromise there.
[15:39:22] * Coren_ scales gumps down to match.
[15:40:02] <Coren_> Hey, having someone to bounce ideas on to sanity check them is nice! :)
[15:40:45] <Coren_> Lemme bounce aonther on you: I was considering shading down the 'bottom' of object boxes rather than keep them fully transparent (just the frame). Sane?
[15:42:56] <wjp> bottom = center?
[15:43:27] <Coren_> Yes-- I was thinking of them as indentation in the gump. :)
[15:46:27] * wjp hmms.. not sure
[15:46:36] <wjp> I think I'd have to see it :-)
[15:47:49] <Eldron> ah, flat picture of the texture.. http://eldron.20m.com/model/uw/gazer_texture.jpg
[15:50:25] <Coren_> Oooo. Skinned gazer! Makes wonderful cloaks! :)
[15:52:29] <Eldron> hehe
[15:52:43] <Eldron> I bet the gazer has a very hard skin though..
[15:52:57] <Eldron> atleast thats how I pictured it from the tiny sprite..
[15:53:31] <Coren_> That would be my guess too.
[15:54:58] <Eldron> and the red and more softer tentacle arms sticking out from beneath the hard scaly skin
[16:00:19] <Coren_> That would be logical, given that the gaze can wave them around.
[16:28:23] <Coren_> wjp: commited proper scaling of gumps, and a new way of drawing the object boxes.
[16:42:34] <wjp> hm, I don't see much of a difference
[16:42:56] <wjp> (apart from the scaling)
[16:43:38] <Coren_> Well, the inside of the object boxes is blended 20% with black. It /looks/ obvious to me; I guess I might be more sensitive to that particular change.
[16:44:07] <Coren_> At the very least, you've confirmed it doesn't become a glaring monstrosity. :)
[16:44:17] <wjp> ok, it does look a bit darker, yes
[16:48:21] <Coren_> AIIIE! *NOW* they tell me one of my courses has been canceled.
[16:48:28] * Coren_ scrambles to find a replacement.
