[15:58:05] <phlask> hi wjp
[15:58:11] <wjp> hi
[15:58:46] <phlask> I just got a radical idea for uwadv
[16:01:38] <phlask> darn... I really have to wait until vivios is here, because I hate to tell it twice
[16:01:38] <wjp> hm, sounds interesting. What idea?
[16:01:38] <wjp> email it to the ML?
[16:01:54] <phlask> yes, I could do that...
[16:02:03] <phlask> as a matter of fact: I will :)
[16:02:28] <phlask> I'm not sure if everyone will like it all that much though because it pretty much turns the current project upside down
[16:03:29] <wjp> hm, that makes me even more curious :-)
[16:03:58] <phlask> well... I'm working on the ml message right now... I'll be back later ok
[16:04:14] <wjp> k :-)

[21:31:47] <wjp> hi again
[21:32:40] <phlask> hi wjp
[21:32:59] <phlask> it seems rather quiet this evening
[21:33:14] <wjp> yeah
[21:34:57] <phlask> tell me... what will the Exult team do now the original goal of recreating U7 is (almost) achieved?
[21:39:51] <wjp> hm, good question :-)
[21:42:18] <phlask> well all team members *could* of course help us out on our project :)
[21:42:28] <wjp> hehe :-)
[21:42:31] <phlask> or were you planning on remaking U8 as well?
[21:42:34] <wjp> you'd have to ask them :-)
[21:42:46] <wjp> well, some of us are planning an u8 engine, yes :-)
[21:42:51] <phlask> cool
[21:42:52] <wjp> ('pentagram')
[21:42:58] <phlask> :)
[21:43:09] <wjp> we've decoded quite a lot of the u8 data files
[21:43:32] <wjp> already written some tools like a map viewer, NPC animation viewer, usecode disassembler
[21:43:33] <phlask> U8 was actually the first "classic" Ultima game I've ever played
[21:43:39] <wjp> same for me
[21:44:20] <phlask> I never completed it yet though :( When I was close to finishing it I screwed up my hdd by accident
[21:44:27] <wjp> ack :/
[21:45:12] <phlask> yeah... oh well, I'm sure I'll finish it some day
[21:45:44] <wjp> it's supposed to run semi-ok in most pre-xp windowses
[21:46:20] <phlask> there is also an NT patch I believe
[21:46:51] <wjp> hm, could be; I didn't follow the u8-in-windows thing too closely
[21:47:24] <phlask> from what I've heard U8 wasn't really the *most* favorite Ultima in the series was it?
[21:47:36] <wjp> not really, no :-)
[21:48:00] <phlask> No wonder I wasn't all that impressed when I first played it :)
[21:48:01] <wjp> no party, no virtue-system, no inpact of any kind of immoral actions; things like that
[21:48:09] <wjp> I kind of liked it
[21:48:33] <phlask> yes... I liked it too, but it didn't seem to live up to the general Ultima-hype
[21:48:41] <phlask> at least, it felt that way
[21:49:57] <wjp> I had the advantage that I didn't know anything about the rest of the series when I played 8 :-)
[21:50:25] <phlask> same here... well, I did know of UW1&2 of course :)
[21:51:08] <wjp> I can't really remember when I first played UW1 or 2
[21:51:31] <wjp> I'm played 2 before 1, but I can't remember when that was in relation to the 'main' series
[21:52:05] <wjp> s/'m//
[21:52:57] <phlask> well... so far I've only played U7/U8/UW1/UW2 and I must admit that I still like both UWs best (UW2 in particular)... I guess should have started with U1 or U2 back in the 80s in order to get really into the whole "original" Ultima thing anyway
[21:53:19] <wjp> U1-3 really weren't all that much :-)
[21:53:28] <wjp> it got interesting at 4
[21:54:12] <phlask> I know I've seen the screenshots :) But I really don't see myself playing U4..U6 nowadays anyhow...
[21:54:36] <phlask> at least not the originals... I guess I'll just have to wait for the remakes
[21:54:51] <wjp> I played them around... hmm... 5 years ago I think
[21:55:05] <wjp> or maybe even a few years earlier
[21:57:54] <phlask> Although the quality of graphics isn't the most important thing to get dragged into a game, I noticed that I do find at least a decent quality very important
[21:58:16] <phlask> maybe it because I have a lack of imagination
[22:00:16] <phlask> because I didn't played them in the 80s they don't stir up any nostalgic feelings either... I guess the same would be true for UW if I hadn't played them back in the early 90s
[22:10:30] <phlask> I've got to go
